Tahiti is Famous For Overwater Bungalows
My friend and hair colorist, Justin, asked me yesterday where he and his boyfriend,Bob, should go for vacation this August. They have about 7-8 days to get away in August and are big fans of Las Ventanas in Cabo, but want to try switch it up by going someplace other than Mexico.
I immediately suggested Bora Bora. And here’s why:
Justin an Bob love tropical getaways. They’ve been to Hawaii several times (Justin has family there). But they haven’t been to French Polynesia. Bob likes tattoos and I think he might find the tribal ink culture on the islands interesting. The word “tattoo” was born in Tahiti.
French Polynesia is easy to reach from Los Angeles International Airport, LAX. Air Tahiti Nui has a non-stop flight to Papeete, Tahiti (airport code PPT) that gets you there in 8 hours and 35 minutes. They can take an inter island flight to Bora Bora airport, where the airport code is – BOB.
There are some fabulous resort options in Tahiti and the surrounding islands, all of which I think Bob and Justin would love. I just had such a great experience at the St. Regis Punta Mita, I’m really into the brand now. I told Justin to check out the St. Regis Bora Bora, where they would earn valuable Starwood Preferred Guest Points.
Once they arrive at Bora Bora Airport, the St. Regis offers guests the option of being picked up by helicopter or boat. Bob is a great photographer and I think he’d get some amazing Bora Bora pictures before even getting to the hotel- either on a boat or inter-island helicopter flight.
Another Bora Bora luxury resort they should consider is the Four Seasons Bora Bora. The Four Seasons will meet guests at BOB and which has a private Four Seasons launch, which will ferry them over a lagoon in the South Pacific for the15 minute transfer to the resort.
I’ve been to French Polynesia a few times. My most recent visit was on my way to and from Easter Island, Chile. Since I was there for only a short layover, I stayed on the island of Tahiti, which isn’t quite as remote as Bora Bora. The images in this post are all mobile photography shot on my iPhone 3G during that trip.

My husband and I recently won a pair of tickets on Air Tahiti Nui through The Global Traveler Charity Auction, where 100% of the proceeds benefited the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. We’re considering both these resorts for our upcoming trip to Tahiti. If Justin and Bob wind up at one of them, I hope they can give us some tips.

Travel Tip: charity auctions are a great way to pick up great travel bargains, and benefit a great cause.
So my vote is that Justin and Bob fly from LAX to PPT to BOB—and enjoy the South Pacific.
If you think Justin and Bob should go somewhere else for their August vacation, let me know in the comments section.
