Veneto Suite at Night
On my recent trip to Rome, picking a hotel was easy. Having had such a great experience at the St. Regis Punta Mita in July (you can read those posts here), I knew I wanted to stay at a Starwood Property in Rome. My husband is a Starwood SPG Platinum member, which often means upgrades. We are both huge fans of upgrades.
We’ve had luck at the Westin Excelsior in the past and it has an excellent location on the Via Veneto, so we decided to stay there.
Maria Rita, Who Checked Us In and Showed Us to Our Veneto Suite
During Check in, Maria Rita smiled at us and told us “You have a very special room… you’re going to like it.” She then escorted us to room 308, one of the three Veneto Suites in the hotel.

The Excelsior Exudes Classic Luxury in the Lobby
While grand classic luxury hotels aren’t usually my style, there is something about the ancient history of Rome that makes me enjoy rolling like Carmella Soprano. In my humble opinon, I think that the Excelsior is in a better location than than the St. Regis Rome (although I’ve had great stays there as well).
“Sweet” is exactly what the Veneto Suite was. Suite 308 came with 4 balconies, a grand living room so large we decided to have a party in it (more on that in a future post), several paintings, a separate spacious bedroom with a heavenly bed, and a bathroom with Jacuzzi bathtub and a shower that didn’t soak the entire room, which is always such a plus in Europe!
